Metropolitan Police Department | Detective Sergeant: Major Case Squad, Retired

Dale Sutherland was named the District of Columbia Detective Sergeant of the year 2010 following a career with the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department that spanned from 1987 to 2013.

Detective Sergeant Sutherland’s police career began in 1985 after graduating from the Northern Virginia Police Academy and serving as a patrol officer with the Arlington County Police Department until 1987 when he joined and subsequently graduated from the Metropolitan Police

Department Academy.  Sutherland’s police career span of twenty eight years flourished as he excelled through the ranks of patrol officer to becoming the Lead Investigator / Undercover officer in over 15 narcotic conspiracies prosecuted in the United States District Court which further advanced his career from Lead Investigative Officer to Detective Sergeant: Major Case Squad.

During Sutherland’s leadership tenure with the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, he contributed to the execution of over 1,000 search warrants or narcotics, prostitution, violent crimes, documents and firearm violations.  His leadership experience involved managing more than 100 officers, detectives and special agents from ATF, DEA, FBI and ICE. His supervision of long term investigations in Washington D.C. led to locations from New York City, NY, North Carolina, Florida and Texas to as far away as Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.
