On September 10, South Carolina Master Patrol Officer Michael Blackmore was dispatched to a local bridge where he found a man sitting on the ledge, threatening to end his life. Upon arrival, the officer began engaging the man in conversation in an attempt to convince him to come to safety. When minutes passed with limited success, the quick-witted officer began discussing football as a potential distractor.

The conversation, captured on video, quickly turned to the man’s two favorite teams – the Washington Redskins and the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. After several minutes of football talk, the officer convinces the man to come back over the ledge to safety. This video has inspired many throughout the nation. We are thankful for Officer Blackmore and so many other cops like him whose poise, calm and quick-thinking have saved countless lives.
